Unicode Standard Version 9.0 Reveals 72 New Emojis

In celebration of the World Emoji Day next month, Unicode 9.0 revealed 72 new emojis. The character coding system covered different kinds of emojis including hands, faces, animals, foods, sports and even gender pairings.

Ten new emojis often used in different messaging apps have been added, one example is the pregnant woman emoji. To partner with the old single-gender emojis, four new ones have been created. A dancing guy emoji was built to pair with the dancing girl emoji, and a groom emoji to pair with the bride emoji.

Seven new hand gestures emoji such as the selfie hand emoji and the middle fingers crossed emoji were added. Similarly, food and food-related emojis were also included. Lovers of the color black will rejoice because a black heart emoji is now available.

Last year, face emojis with skin tone modifiers were released. This time, version 9.0 released a number of face emojis but with no skin modifiers or other similar functions were added.

Development of the tenth version has begun and is set to be released by mid-2017.
