The World’s First Modular Smartwatch funded on Kickstarter

The alarming fates of the two most successfully-funded projects in Kickstarter history did not stop a new one to get its target funds (and more!) in the platform.

BLOCKS, “the world’s first modular smartwatch”, has successfully raised $1.6 million from the 5, 063 backers supporting the idea. The project was launched on October 13 with an original goal of $250 thousand.

Aside from bearing the smartwatch features, such as the color touch screen, phone notifications, and wireless pairing with both Android and iOS devices, BLOCKS also holds the promise of the modularity feature. It offers the ability to swap and customize the functionality of one’s smartwatch to match his/her needs and lifestyles.

Its earmark is its strap, which comes as segments that contain modules each with different functions. For instance, there’s a module for temperature and heart rate sensor, for extra battery, for flash memory, for GPS mode, and more! One can choose the segments containing the module that suits his/her lifestyle and put them together, similar to forming Lego bricks.

BLOCKS is set to deliver to its finished output to backers on May 2016.
