French Startup Unveils Nutrient-Detecting Gadget

For those curious about the amount of carbs and calories they are about to consume every time they sit down to eat, a new gadget has arrived to satisfy that curiosity. The gadget, a Bluetooth-connected molecular sensor known as SCiO, can reveal your meal’s nutritional value by scanning its chemical makeup.

This handy and informative item is a product of DietSensor, a French startup. The company unveiled their newest creation at the 2016 International Consumer Electronics Show. SCiO makes use of near-infrared spectroscopy to determine the chemical makeup of both food and drink. It can analyze substances based on how each molecules interact with light. Despite being ideal for dieters, the primary audience for SCiO are those suffering from diabetes or cardiovascular diseases. The SCiO scanner is now available for $249.
