A new report released by Juniper Research has claimed that Apple shipped around 52% of smartwatches in virtually all markets around the world in 2015. It is estimated that roughly 17 million smartwatches have been sold on a worldwide basis. Despite the request for a comment regarding the research, Apple did not immediately respond.
Minus any hard sales numbers from Apple, it does appear that this research is on the mark. Smartwatches continue to be quite interesting as a new category. However, users are still waiting for that “need to have” use case that will make the Smartwatch an undeniable sales phenomenon.
