Target Invests in Shopping Carts for People with Disabilities

Target, the second largest discount retailer in US, are investing in Caroline’s Carts, shopping carts that have chairs for children or adults with mobility-related disabilities. The cart enables parents or caregivers to shop without having to maneuver both the shopping cart and the wheelchair throughout the store.

Starting March 19, all Target stores will have at least one Caroline’s Cart. Target has been testing the new design in selected stores around US for about a year and responses from it has been overwhelmingly positive.

Caroline’s Cart features a chair large enough for an adult, a huge improvement from the tiny seats of standard shopping carts. The larger seat also has a seatbelt to keep the person securely fastened in the cart. It also has adjustable, foam-covered handles to aid in steering control for a parent or caregiver navigating the cart.
