Android VR Headset to be Announced by Google

Google is reportedly announcing a standalone Android VR headset at the next Google I/O event. Peter Rojas, a former tech journalist, tweeted about the potential release, citing multiple sources. He noted that the headset will be “less powerful than the Vive or Rift.” Both the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive setups are both bulkier and costly by comparison.

With the standalone product, Google will have a product that can move past high-end smartphones whilst still priced aggressively and with superior optics. The company spent most of its VR efforts in the past two years enticing developers to create simple VR content. Regardless of rumors, it is still likely that Google I/O will see a host of announcements related to VR.
