Foodpanda, one of the biggest food delivery app and backed by Rocket Internet, recently announced its acquisition of Delivery.com in Hong Kong. Foodpanda will take over the acquired company’s operations in HK.
There’s been a lot of news before on Foodpanda’s failed businesses in various countries including Vietnam and Thailand. According to reports, Foodpanda was present in 40 countries last year, but is now only operating in 24 countries.
However, the company has also made a lot of acquisitions over the years. It has bought off several food delivery startups in Asia, Latin America, and Europe.
New York-based Delivery.com and Berlin-based Foodpanda have always been rivals in Hong Kong as they both launched in the country in 2014. Other acquisitions that Foodpanda made in Hong Kong include Dial a Diner and Koziness.
“We are very excited to welcome delivery.com Hong Kong’s corporate clients, customers, and team to the Foodpanda family,” Ralf Wenzel, Foodpanda CEO and co-founder said. “The team has built an excellent operation in one of our key markets and will help Foodpanda continue to drive high growth there.”
