If you could ask a group of top business owners what is the one thing that they wish they had more of, it would probably be time. Being able to squeeze as much productivity in to the little time you have is what could give you an edge in business. However, staying focused can be an issue for many, especially those who are starting as a one-person operation. Let’s take a look at a few things you can do to be more productive as a business owner.
Sleep Better
One of the first things you should do to be more productive is to do everything outside of work better. You want to eat better, sleep better, and take better care of your body. The very first thing you’ll need to address is sleep. Sleep is probably the number one predictor of cognitive performance. If you don’t sleep enough, your thoughts will be all over the place and you won’t be able to get as much done. Even if you get things done, the quality won’t be as good.
So, we suggest you create the perfect sleeping environment for you. This starts with a good mattress. You should really look at which type of sleeper you are. Maybe you could sleep better on a good hybrid mattress? Make sure that you look at as many reviews as you can, compare the different types of mattresses, and find the one that is better for your sleeping position and your particular needs.
Second, you have to make sure that you have a sleep routine. You should sleep and wake up at the same time every day. You also should make sure that you get 8 hours of sleep per day. And, make sure that you turn down any screen in your room at least two hours before sleeping as they can interfere with your internal clock and sleep cycles.
Nutrition and Exercise
Nutrition and exercise play a crucial role in productivity. Food will provide you with the fuel your brain and body need. Have a diet full of complex carbs to give you steady energy during the day and protein to help you focus. Exercise – aerobic exercise in particular – can also help you be more productive. This is because it promotes oxygenation of the blood, which helps with mental clarity and overall wellness.
Start Every Day with a Plan
If you don’t start your days with a to-do list your efforts will be scattered. There’s a greater chance that you’ll start procrastinating as well. So, make sure that you have a clear list of what to do every day and hold yourself accountable.
Take Breaks
Taking breaks is also essential when you’re working. It will eventually help you perform better. When you overwork your brain, it starts to get fatigued, and even if you’re able to get some work done, it will probably not be as good. Not only that, but it could take you more time to complete the same tasks.
One study found that the people who were the most productive worked for 52 minutes followed by 17-minute breaks. Another formula might work better for you, but you have to remember to take regular breaks to allow your eyes and brain to refresh. Also, make sure that you don’t do any type of strenuous activity during that time and don’t read or look at screens.
These are all tips that you can try to be more productive as a business owner. If you follow these, you should be able to perform better and feel better as well.
