Korean Booking App DailyHotel Expands to 10 New Countries

DailyHotel is a last-minute hotel booking application based in Seoul, South Korea. The company was launched in 2013 by brothers Ryan and Jimmy Shin. Ryan got the idea for the startup after realizing the struggle of finding accommodations in Seoul at the eleventh hour. Since then, DailyHotel gained funding of $10 million from Sequoia India, although the company refuses to divulge its overall funding so far.

Recently, the company announced that it will now be available in 10 other countries, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand. DailyHotel’s expansion focuses on its two major markets, Indonesia and Singapore, where it has over 2,000 and 300 registered hotels respectively

The startup gets to work with luxury hotels by promising to fill their excess rooms. Some of the big hotel names it has partnered with in Seoul are Intercontinental Seoul Coex, Hilton Hotels and Resorts, and Marriott International. Each establishment reported getting over 120 room bookings every weekend through the app. DailyHotel regularly has above 3,000 available rooms most of which are at 70%-80% discounts.

DailyHotel’s other expansion scheme includes the addition of other features such as its restaurant booking service in South Korea.
