FINODEX (Future Internet Open Data Expansion) is an accelerator funding and supporting projects that are built through the integration of FIWARE technology. Each year, they open calls for different products seeking funding. The second call this 2015, which was closed in June, garnered 297 projects in total. After FINODEX’s “highest level” competition, 52 projects remained including TeamDev’s WISE Town.
WISE (Web Information Stream Enhancer)Town is a cloud suite of applications (web application, mobile apps, APIs to interface third party portals) that improve urban management in several services areas. The platform functions through data inputs, mostly geographical, but also alphanumerical ones to describe the urban area and allow citizens to report a problem directly to local governments. WISE Town makes use of open data that affect several areas, urban renewal, waste management, transport & mobility, environmental monitoring, public safety, and urban green spaces. The platform’s ability to link the information of citizens’ problems’ reports to specific items from their data sets–and not only to a geographical point–makes this information more useful and straightforward for the resolution of received complaints.
Created by the Italian software company TeamDev, WISE Town can be enabled to receive information from social networks and other information systems, and manage the entire data flow as a single and homogeneous stream of information. This centralized information flow allows the platform to filter, record and route the content to different output or procedures to third-party software. The system will be based on machine learning algorithms, which can be added to categorized “live” information. The output of the system is manually reentered on maps powered by GIS (Geographic Information Systems) technology. All the input data from these maps are used to improve urban management and planning. With this open data, citizens can see how the government is using the information.
