Designing Your Office For Maximum Productivity

The space where you work has such a huge impact on your overall productivity that it makes sense that you get it right. This means considering all the small details carefully and ensuring that they are all helping you to focus and achieve your goals. None of the things that we are about to talk about should be overly challenging whether you are looking to implement them in your home workspace or your office at work.

Lighting

The lighting of a room has such a big impact on how well you are able to focus and the general levels of motivation that you have. Just a few of the negative consequences associated with bad lighting include eye strain, fatigue, and a sense of tiredness. If you work in a company office and can’t control the general lighting, you can still bring in your own lamp or light therapy device. In your home office, you want to encourage as much natural light into the room as possible.

Chair and Table

When choosing your desk and office chairs, it is worth taking the time to get these right as you will be using them on such a regular basis. Go for a nice sturdy desk and adjustable chair. Next, you need to do a couple of ergonomic checks. To start off with, you should position your computer screen at or below eye-level and your feet should be resting on the floor. Adjust your chair to a slightly reclined position to minimize the pressure on your spine.

Clutter

In the digital age, there is significantly less need for lots of papers and bulky storage units. Clutter isn’t particularly helpful when it comes to improving your levels of focus and productivity. When it comes to your company office, there isn’t a great deal that you can do about the general levels of clutter, but you can ensure that your own desk looks neat and tidy. You have much more control over your home office, so buy enough files, folders and storage units to keep everything well organised. This ensures that you don’t spend half the day looking for your files.

Room Colour

The colours that are all around us have a big impact on our moods and general brain function. While blue has been said to improve productivity, you simply need to choose the colours that inspire you the most. At your company office, use small decorative items of those shades. In your personal space, you could repaint a wall or hang pictures. Experiment with different designs to see what works best for you.

Room Temperature

While you want your workspace to be warm enough, you don’t want it to be too hot as this could encourage drowsiness. At your workplace, you could bring in heater, sweaters, and blankets. In your home office, opening the windows or adjusting the a/c to a temperature that suits you are both viable options.
