Early in January, Facebook announced that their Messenger app now has more than 800 million monthly active users. The announcement of a separate messaging app was initially met with great reluctance by users who felt it was unnecessary. The passage of time, and the addition of several useful features, has clearly changed public opinion.
Among the features introduced last year included video calling. Despite it not being the most reliable option, it showed the app’s reach beyond simple text-based chatting. It is also worth noting that the feature had over a million video calls within the first two days. Other new features introduced were the removal of the ‘other’ inbox and the capability to order an Uber.
Facebook aims for Messenger to be the go-to spot for almost anything users would like to do through their phones.
