AirAsia COO to Become Interim CEO

Philippines AirAsia Inc’s Board of Directors has named Dexter Comendador as its interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO) effective July 30.

Comendador was an officer in the aviation industry of the Philippine Air Force for over 34 years and was also a commercial pilot for various airlines. The new CEO joined the company in 2011 as director of flight operations and was promoted to Chief Operating Officer (COO) in 2015.

He will replace Joy Caneba who resigned after three years as CEO of Philippines AirAsia Inc.

AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes expressed his appreciation for Caneba’s service after leading the company to an 81 percent passenger load increase in the previous year from the 70 percent in 2014.

Caneba was also the COO prior to accepting the role of CEO in 2014.

The outgoing CEO spoke highly of her successor, confident of the company’s continuing success under the new management.
