Australian Startup Make Some Change

A recently launched Australian startup Make Some Change has the potential to change the way people watch online advertisements. Instead of interrupting Youtube users or disrupting website viewers, they can have the audience themselves come to view the ads on their platform.

Founders, Michael Battle and Jesse Richardson made this possible by creating Change coins. Users can earn Change coins each time they watch online ads. After earning Change coins, the users can then choose which causes available on the platform they should donate to. One Change coin is worth five US cents, and about seven Australian cents.

“When you’re in the market for a car, all of a sudden, car ads are interesting,” Battle said. “If people are actually opting-in to watch these messages, they’re not even ads anymore — it’s much more like shopping.”

Battle and Richardson believe that the idea for Make Some Change can work because the current online advertising model is not sustainable. Battle said that users usually skip or don’t see the advertisements when it comes to banner ads or pre-rolled videos on Youtube.
Make Some Change changes this because users will be opting-in to watch the ads.
