U.K digital doctor application, Babylon, recently raised $25 million on a Series A round led by a Swedish investment company, AB Kinnevik. The startup’s original backer Hoxton Ventures, the founders of BXR Group, Deepmind and Innocent Drinks also participated in the funding round.
Babylon is an application that lets its users have video consultations with doctors through video calls. The company was founded by ex-Goldman Sachs banker, Ali Parsa.
Babylon plans to use the money by integrating an AI component that will let its users pre-screen health issues prior to consultation with a doctor in the application. This future improvement can really improve the service of the application since as of now only about 100 doctors more or less are employed to consult the users who have to pay a monthly subscription.
“The potentials of digital health have come a long way since we launched Babylon. We can now do much more than just connecting a patient to a doctor on their mobile,” Parsa said. “We are building a platform that can significantly augment clinicians’ reach, accuracy, analytical powers and scalability.”
Although Babylon remains quiet about its current market valuation, Financial Times revealed that it was in excess of $100 million.
