Ascent, a recruitment and business process outsourcing company, is looking to convince local nurses that it is possible to acquire a well-paying job without having to leave the Philippines. The company plans on employing 2,000 Filipino nurses this year and hopes to overcome the perception that IT is a last resort opportunity for medical practitioners.
Ascent CEO Raphael C. Macapagal said in a recent interview that “there is a problem in the mind-set of nurses because they feel this is a call center work.” Healthcare is among the fastest-growing segments within the BPO industry. Companies that outsource jobs in the Philippines often require professionals to have extensive medical knowledge.
