China to Set Stricter Regulations on Drone Delivery

It doesn’t look like drone delivery is going to take over the fast delivery bike couriers in China anytime soon. At Beijing’s General Aviation Development Summit just last week, it was revealed that a new set of regulations on drones has been drafted, which will be released within the month. China’s Civil Aviation Administration has already approved of the new rules, which are now going through other approval procedures.

The secretary of China Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), Ke Yuyu, said that the new regulations would place stricter measures on drones that weigh over 35 kg (55 lbs) and drones which can carry cargo or weigh more than 150 kg (330 lbs). Those in e-commerce shouldn’t rejoice just yet because drone delivery will still be banned in urban areas.
