GMA Network, Inc. has inched closer to digital TV through the unveiling of a new device last Wednesday. The device allows for digital transmission to become compatible with analog TV sets. According to GMA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Felipe L. Gozon, the company is “prepared to go to digital, infrastructure-wise and technical-wise.”
The company already has an application for intellectual property protection for their device that converts digital transmission. Gozon also noted that 99% of all TV sets in the Philippines are still analog. “So you need this device if you are transmitting digitally for analog TV to receive signal and transmission.” The amount to be invested in the venture is said to be around P550 million.
