Hulu to Introduce New Cable TV-Like Service

Hulu, in an attempt to compete with Sling TV, is fleshing out a brand new cable-TV like service. This is done by agreeing to license channels from Hulu’s co-owners: 21st Century Fox and Walt Disney Co. The intended launch period for the service is on Q1 2017. Channels included will be Disney, Fox, ABC, ESPN, Fox News, FX, and Fox’s sports channels.

The new service will stream live feeds of both cable TV channels and broadcast. This will position it to not only compete with Sling TV, but also other services such as Sony Playstation’s Vue among others. The entry of Hulu into the streaming market is at a time when it has become quite crowded. The entire move looks to be a big bet on the part of Hulu.
