Travel+Leisure, a New-York based magazine, named the island of Palawan as the world’s best island.
The magazine asked their readers to compare and rate popular travel destinations around the world. Criteria for rating includes the following: activities, beaches, foods, tourist destinations, people’s hospitality and overall value. Palawan garnered the first place with the highest rate of 93.71 percent.
Travel+Leisure writer Melanie Lieberman stated that Palawan is a place where tourists are greeted with majestic mountains out of turquoise waters. Lieberman added that Palawan’s underground river is a wonder that tourists shouldn’t miss. A magazine reader described the island as a wonderful and magical place; a beach lover’s dream destination.
Boracay and Cebu also made it to Travel+Leisure top 10 list. Boracay got the second place, while Cebu was placed sixth. A reader considered Boracay island as a natural treasure. On the other hand, another reader praised Cebu as a fun island for tourists who are traveling on a budget.
Lieberman said that the Philippines’ dominance in their list shows how much travelers crave for pristine waters and white sand beaches. Moreover, she listed varied physical activities that visitors can try in Cebu.
