A joint venture has just been entered by both Semirara Mining and Power Corp. and Meralco Powergen Corp. The purpose of the venture is to create a two-unit coal-fired power plant in Calaca, Batangas. The capacity of the proposed plant will be about 350 megawatts.
The power plant will be under St. Raphael Power Generation Corp., as revealed in a disclosure to the PSE. St. Raphael, a wholly owned subsidiary, was created in September 10, 2013 to help engage in the power generation business. Its environmental compliance certificate had been issued for the engagement of the project on Sept. 17, 2015.
