An enigmatic tweet by Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk referring to a “Top Secret Tesla Masterplan, Part 2” has sent the company’s stock rising by 4% in early trade. Musk said that he has been working on the masterplan and hopes to publish it later this week.
Tesla Motors is an American automotive company known for its energy-efficient electric cars with autopilot capabilities. The company’s public reveal of its low-cost family car called Model 3 last April generated 400,000 pre-orders.
However, Tesla’s autopilot feature has been a subject of controversy with the death of Joshua Brown in Florida. The 40-year old driver died when his Model S collided with a truck while in autopilot. In a statement, Tesla suggested that the system may have been unable to recognise “the white side of the tractor trailer against a brightly lit sky”
A second crash in Pennsylvania was also reported just this week though it is unclear whether the autopilot system was responsible for it.
