U.S. Lawmakers Resist Spending Deal

The deal that sought to fund the U.S. government has been met with resistance on Wednesday from conservative Republicans who are concerned about spending. Joining them are some House of Representatives Democrats, who had a complaint about corporate tax breaks and the planned end to the ban on U.S. oil exports.

House Speaker Paul Ryan commented on his confidence regarding a bipartisan compromise, saying there is no reason to think that a federal government shutdown is inevitable. On Thursday, the Republican-controlled House will vote regarding the extension of not only tax breaks for both individuals and corporations, but also the omnibus spending bill.
