A federal judge has ruled that sexual orientation is now covered under a law that prohibits gender-based discrimination within educational programs. This law allows two former players of women’s basketball to push through with their lawsuit against Pepperdine University. The two claim to be victims of discrimination after it became known that they were dating.
In the lawsuit, the former players claimed that their coach wanted them off the team because their personal relationship might affect their team’s performance. Team staffers also questioned them regarding their sexual orientation and wanted access to their gynecological records. The new ruling regarding the discrimination law was reported on Tuesday.
