Boeing Co.’s 747 jumbo jetliner has brought global travel to the masses way back in the 1970’s. It has become iconic in the eyes of many, but time is running out for this once magnificent plane. It has since fallen from favor in the modern airline industry and its sales have dropped as well. With its future delicately hanging in the balance, an unlikely source of hope has emerged.
A Russian freight company has promised to purchase 18 over the next couple of years. Should the pledge fall through, then attaining more financing won’t be such an easy feat to accomplish. For now, Boeing’s backlog contains enough to keep building more 747s until mid-2017 the most.
