Baidu to Integrate Deep Learning in Food Review App

Chinese web service company Baidu is set to release an update on its e-commerce app  Nuomi that will change the way its users review their favorite foods and restaurants. The anticipated update will allow users to easily review a particular dish by snapping a photo of it. Using deep learning, the app will then be able to recognize the food item and make it automatically available for your review.

You can also conduct your review by talking directly to your phone since the app will be able to instantly convert your speech into text using speech recognition technology.

Director Yuanqing Lin from Baidu’s Institute of Learning claims that the app can recognize around 90 percent of food items owing to its stocks of food photos collected from all its users.

The app will be particularly useful to users who are looking for a food recommendation. The ratings and rankings can be very helpful when you want to be pointed to a restaurant that can cook your favorite dish the best, Lin said.
