Data-Transfer Deal Between US and EU to Replace Safe Harbour

Both the EU and the US have agreed to a brand new pact that will make it much easier for organizations to transfer data across the Atlantic. This new agreement heads off the threat of being unable to send personal info for processing in United States data centers. It also follows a court ruling from the previous year that invalidates Safe Harbour, an earlier date transfer mechanism.

Safe Harbour was ruled out after leaks that suggested that US security services were scrutinizing foreign personal data. Negotiators for both the US and the EU have already been working on the formulation of the new deal for months, however, the ruling placed further pressure to conclude negotiations. This new agreement is to be called the EU-US Privacy Shield.
