Chicago’s law department is set to undergo an independent review conducted by former U.S. attorney, Dan Webb. The particular division of the department to be reviewed is the Federal Civil Rights Litigation division, which defends the police.
The review will take place in the wake of an accusation from a local judge to a city attorney of hiding evidence in a lawsuit over a police shooting. Webb, who serves as a co-chairman of Winston & Strawn, will also be reviewing claims that excessive force had been utilized by police officers in the past. The law department is also set to bring in several outside experts in order to provide additional ethics training to their 45 lawyers and support staff.
