Last month, Google Maps rolled out an update for Android users, allowing offline navigation and search. This function is now available on iOS with additional features that allow users to check gas prices in the U.S. and Canada as well as peak hours for local businesses.
Though viewing map sections offline has been allowed by Google Maps before, this new update has improved the search function further. It now allows you to search for a specific location, get directions and retrieve information such as operating hours for establishments or contact details for restaurants and other businesses.
When searching for a city, county or country, just select “save offline map” which you can find in the location menu. After saving, you can now search for directions within the saved map sections. Check out the GIF demonstrating how to use the offline feature on Android.
