Google’s New Platform Teaches Kids How to Code

Project Bloks, a platform supported by Google, aims to teach kids how to learn from a series of fun and collaborative coding activities. It provides an open platform for web designers, developers, teachers and researchers to assist them in creating innovative ways to instill computational thinking to young learners.

Knowing that kids learn easier and faster by using their hands, Bloks developed a modular system designed for tangible programming. The system was created by combining electronic boards and programmable pucks. It enables users to construct and send specific instructions to connected devices.

Using the system, one can create a sensor lab or a music maker. With the Sensor Lab kit, children can experiment with sensors and direct an input to an output such as switching on a light bulb if the temperature is low. On the other hand, the Music Maker kit allows kids to compose any musical track by putting together different layers and loops of sounds.

Project Bloks encourages everyone to join them in developing their project. The platform is not the only initiative of Google in promoting computer science education.
