Local Service App ServisHero Raises 2.7m to Launch in Thailand

ServisHero, theUber for local services, raised US$2.7 in a pre-series A financing round. The funding was led by Golden Gate Ventures. Cradle Seed Ventures also participated. The financing will be used by the company to expand in Southeast Asia.

ServisHero is an application for homes and office services. It lets users search, get costings, and schedule a booking for servicemen (e.g. repairman, plumber, cleaner, etc.). The company earns money through the fee that servicemen get on their page pay.

ServisHero is popular in Malaysia in Singapore. Thailand will be its next target. Kar Loo, its co-founder and CEO, said that he got the idea for ServisHero when he can’t find a repairman in Malaysia to fix his air conditioner. Out of his frustration, he built a platform that will connect small businesses and individual professionals service providers to their customers. They launched ServisHero in Kuala Lumpur earlier last year.
Thailand is an important market for ServisHero as the country is experiencing similar problems with Malaysia. According to Karl, finding local service providers in Thailand is hard because service professionals are used to traditional forms of advertising, and are not easily discoverable online.
