On its tenth year anniversary, Marco Polo Plaza celebrated by giving back.
The celebration began with a RUN FOR ERUF on April 3, 2016, where more than 900 people joined the #TimelessAt10 run for a cause. Participants chose from either of the three distance categories available: 10K, 5K and 1K. All of the proceeds of the run went to the Emergency Rescue (ERUF-Cebu).
As early as 4:00AM, runners already gathered and warmed up by participating in the short Zumba workout led by the Sports and Fitness Enthusiasts (SAFE). Race Director Joel Baring brief the runners on the race route after they had warmed up. At 5:00 AM, fireworks signaled the start of the race for 10K runners. 5K and 1K participants followed shortly.
After the race, SAFE also led a cool down exercise to lessen the muscle pain of runners. Items given by sponsors were raffled off, including certificates from Marco Polo Plaza Cebu. Top 3 winners of the 5K and 10K were awarded with cash prizes, medals and Serenitea vouchers.
For the 5K Category Women’s Division, Cherry Andrin won first place finishing with a time of 00:23:34.780. Mary Joy Castor followed with a finish time of 00:24:29.780 and Catherine Angelie Yu nabbed 3rd place finishing clocking in with 00:24:51.340 at the finish line. For the 5K Category Men’s Division are Joseph Mururi who placed first with a time of 00:17:14.300 followed closely by Michael Largo with a time 00:17:30.950. Douglas Mwitti finished 3rd clocking in with a time of 00:17:46.640.
Ruffa Sorongon finished first for the 10K Category Women’s Division with a time of 00:43:15.730. In second place with a time of 00:46:06.250 is Geniecel Sabella and in third place with a time of time of 00:56:14.680 is Carla Cosep. Abraham Kilimo claimed first place for the 10K Category Men’s Division with a time of 00:33:34.500. Eric Chepsiror and Sherwin Managil finished 2nd and 3rd with a time of 00:33:38.810 and 00:37:42.640 respectively.
The Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation or ERUF has always worked together with Marco Polo Plaza to ensure safety and security for the hotel’s guests and associates. During hotel events, ERUF emphasizes the value of life, encourages people to volunteer and live by its core value, ‘we serve so others might live’. Marco Polo Plaza shows how much it values their efforts to help the community by sponsoring this run for a cause.
