Experienced mountaineers Cory Richards and Adrian Ballinger had been planning to snapchat their journey to Mount Everest’s Summit ever since they reached the base camp in April. They documented their trip through photos and videos that they shared daily through their account joint account EverestNoFilter. However, they encountered a couple of problems along the way.
Ballinger had to turn back on the day of the summit push as the team’s doctor and Richards advised him to head back down when he became too cold and had started slurring his words. He warmed up back at their camp located 27,000 feet above sea level.
Richards on the other hand, shouldered on and finally reached the summit without the use of extra oxygen. He is only one of around 200 who were able to do so. Unfortunately his phone died before he could document this momentous feat.
“What happened was my phone — because technology is affected by the cold and it’s affected by atmosphere, and it’s affected by all of these things — I pulled my phone out when I was on the summit and it just flat out died. It’s just due to cold, and that’s something you can’t account for,” Richards said in an interview with Mashable.
