Filipinos are known for having a great variety of foods that have become part of its rich identity. From main dishes to delectable desserts, the list of gastronomic adventures in the Philippines is endless.
Some of the most popular favorites among the Filipinos are the classic Pinoy breads like pandesal, monay, and ensaymada. Aside from their historical and socio-cultural significance, such breads also support the country’s local industry.
Now as a celebration of the rich Filipino bread-making tradition, Pilmico, together with Max’s Corner started what is called as the Tinapay Natin Pinoy Bread Baking Competition. Ms. Carlyn Trota-Salud, President of Max’s Bakeshop pointed out that pinoy breads reflect the country’s affinity to food and agriculture.
The competition intends to highlight the role of breads in supporting the country’s rich food history and to empower Filipino bread makers as storytellers of our nation. It also aims to pay tribute to the authentic local identity and culture in each region.
To also encourage young FIlipino bakers, the bread baking contest is open to all Filipino students aged 18 to 35 from anywhere in the country. The organizers hope that it will inspire them to add a new twist to the existing flavors of the Filipino breads.
