Artist and Robotist Alexander Reben was curious about mind-inducing pleasures so he created a robot that would do just that. His primary interest lies in the unexpected emotional responses that robots can trigger within us. With an educational background in Robotics and Applied Math & Art plus a Masters Degree at the Responsive Environments Group at MIT Media Lab, Reben believes that artificial intelligence can gauge influence in human behaviours and most elusively induce “headgasms”. His passion about human-machine relationships led him to design several projects including Boxie The Story Gathering Robot, Gigapan and James Chimpton.
His very recent installation “Robots-in-Residence: The World’s First Documentary Shot And Directed Entirely By Robots, was showcased at the Tribeca International Film Festival. The rise of numerous Artificial Intelligence in not a threatening concept anymore. More and more individuals are embracing the intellects and robotic presence among our society. Take for example the Robot Restaurant in Tokyo’s Shinjuku district highlighting robotic shows to entertain locals and tourists. Not to forget the very famous Japanese humanoid robot named Pepper designed to become a daily companion for anyone. With the number one ability to perceive human emotions.
