Slack has introduced a new “Calls” feature for its desktop program, as well as on its Chrome plugin. The new feature allows you to begin a private Slack Call or hold a conference call on a channel that any user can join in. Visual emoji reactions can be sent during chats, which stays true to Slack’s lighthearted style.
Integrations have been offered in the past, with similar apps like Google Hangouts, Skype, Zoom, and Bluejeans involved. However, it is worth noting that those required separate installation and were clunky by comparison. The only requirement needed for Slack Calls is enabling by your team’s admin and you are good to go. For now, the feature is rolled out to less than half of Slack’s users.
