Small Cars to be Produced Locally by Mitsubishi Philippines

Mitsubishi is quite keen to help expand the local auto industry. The company is busy preparing its application for its incentive program, which requires automakers to produce 200,000 vehicles per model at the very least over six years. The purpose of this is to avail of tax breaks. Company president Yoshiaki Kato has stated his belief that smaller models would be easier to sell.

The production of small car models are to start sometime in 2017 or even 2018. The company not only sells the Mirage subcompact, but also the Lancer sedans, both of which are imported. Vehicle sales in the Philippines rose to twenty-three percent in 2015, as shown by data from the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc.
