On Tuesday, Cebu Air, Inc. launched its maiden flight to the US. Its aim is to triple passenger traffic between Manila and Guam within the year. This aim is based on the expected strong demand from a large population of overseas Filipinos in the country. The company expects the Guam-Manila route to yield a similar demand as other international flights because of affordable fares.
An official from Cebu Air said that the new flight won’t cut into existing market share from other carriers. Instead, they’ll “end up doubling, triple the traffic.” Initially, 1,440 seats will be added per week to the currently available 5,900 seats in the market. The company also seeks to mount flights to a second US destination — Hawaii — but the necessary approvals has yet to be secured.
