Startup Centralizes Scholarship & Internship Opportunities

WeMakeScholars.com started out as a Facebook group ran by Arjun R. Krishna and Damini Mahajan. Both from India, Arjun and Damini got their master’s degree in the UK. After applying to over 40 to 45 scholarships, they got the last one and received full scholarships in the University of Sheffield. Many friends were very interested, which propelled them to create a facebook group in 2013 to help.

In 2015, the FB group grew to over 150,000 members which led them to consider turning the platform into a business model. They made a poll, asking members whether they should create a centralized location for scholarships to which they got 95% affirmative votes.

Today, WeMakeScholars links students to over 17,000 scholarships worldwide worth US$60 million. Students from high school through post-grad can easily find available scholarships and internships by inputting their preferences.

WeMakeScholars has been the recipient of various awards. It became one of five winners of Action for India’s annual business plan competition besting over 1,200 startups from India. It was also one of 40 winners of 18,500 competitors of the Power of Ideas competition.
