The 1st female tailor shop opened on Savile Row

Empowered women has once again taken the throneroom of success by penetrating the monopoly of male-driven industries. Such is the case of Kathryn Sargent. She is the first female “head cutter” to ever open a tailor shop on Savile Row. After 200 years, the iconic London street Savile Row (pronounced as ˌsævɪl ˈroʊ is now housing Sargent’s customized tailored suits for both men and women. Located at Mayfair, Central London, the street is widely known for the traditional bespoke tailoring, accommodating the likes of the Royals, famous celebrities and business titans.

Kathryn who had her apprenticeship at Gieves & Hawkes is already a veteran in creating world-class suits. It took her a while to get to where she is right now but on an interview, this is what she wanted to do her whole life.Prices for her “bespoke” suits start at £4,200 ($6,000). The tailoring business in Savile Row dates back on the late 18th century where the creator of tuxedo crafted his fashion masterpiece in the area. Famous and renown designers like Richard James, Ozwald Boateng, and Timothy Everest started the New Bespoke Movement” that paved the way for handmade and quality suits that is evolving until today. Albeit, a handful of female entrepreneurs are rising to the challenge and we can only expect more to come.
