Mindanao is expected to see an oversupply of power towards the end of the year. New power plants are to start delivering electricity and the oversupply will be around 100 to 200 megawatts. Despite that, industry stakeholders believe that the excess can easily be taken up by the region’s suppressed demand.
In a recent interview, VP for Business Development at Alsons Consolidated Resources Joseph C. Nocos stated that, “if you bring in 285-MW at full capacity, you could be looking at a surplus of 100-200 MW.” He also expects that the country could witness the plants being dispatched ahead of hydro power plants soon.
