While Facebook is recently facing criticism as an online media company silencing the conservative voice, Twitter is making a move in the right direction. The latter is becoming more like a traditional media company, which is further cemented by their decision to bring Debra Lee, the CEO and chairman of BET (Black Entertainment Television) on board as one of their directors.
According to Twitter’s Executive Chairman Omid Kordestani, “She’s a highly respected leader in the media industry with decades of experience, and has a clear passion for Twitter as a service and a company.”
For a long time, Twitter has had only white men in their team but not it has three women–one of whom is Debra Lee–and an Iranian-American man. By adding Lee, Twitter now has more diversity at the top, appeasing investors and industry watchers.
