Congressional Leaders Agree on Tax & Spending Legislation

A deal on spending and tax legislation was unveiled by Congressional leaders this past Wednesday. This deal is meant to help avoid a government shutdown and make changes to the energy policy, as well as the 2010 health law. The deal was completed after weeks of negotiations on Capitol Hill.

The government’s incumbent funding will expire at 12:01 am on Thursday; lawmakers are expected to pass a short-term spending patch today December 22 that will prevent a brief lapse as the chambers consider the full-year spending bill for 2016. The bill funding the government for five days was passed by Congress a week ago.
