Crocs Bad for the Health

Some people dislike Crocs for its unusual appearance, while there are those who love it – that is if you prefer comfort over fashion. However, recent statements by medical professionals may provide another argument for those who dislike it, which claimed that Crocs may be hazardous to your health if worn daily.

In an interview for the Huffington Post, Dr. Megan Leahy, a Chicago-based podiatrist with the Illinois Bone and Joint Institute, said that Crocs are not suitable for all-day use as they do not adequately secure the heel. When the heel is unstable, toes tend to grip which can lead to tendonitis, toe deformities, nail problems, corns and calluses. The same thing can happen with flip-flops or any backless shoes where the heel is not secured, Dr. Leahy explained further.

In addition, Dr Alex Kor, the president of the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine also said that people can suffer pain in the foot if their footwear bends in the shank. The shank is an auxiliary structure located between the heel and the toe. It also runs beneath the arch of the foot.

Dr. Kor observed that some patients who complain about a pain in their arch or heel wore Crocs.
