Cebu Pacific, Philippines’ largest low-cost carrier, is expanding its operations to ASEAN countries. This comes after President Aquino signed the ASEAN Multilateral Agreement in Air Services last February 3. With this agreement, it allows appointed carriers of ASEAN countries to operate flights between capitals, which will lead to a better connectivity and more competitive fares and services.
“We commend the DOTC (Department of Transportation and Communications), DFA (Department of Foreign Affairs), DOT (Department of Tourism), CAB (Civil Aviation Board) and other relevant agencies for supporting the ratification of this agreement. The Philippine aviation industry has reached a milestone that will ultimately benefit the travelling public, as we open our airspace to vast travel opportunities and operational efficiencies between and among Asean carriers,” said Atty. JR Mantaring, CEB Vice President for Corporate Affairs, in a statement.
Currently, Cebu Pacific is in the lead when it comes to offering the most number of flights to ASEAN countries. These include flights to Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia (Siem Reap), Indonesia (Bali and Jakarta), and Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu) to name a few.
