In a blog post Whatsapp delivered game changing news this past Monday by announcing that its subscription fees will be dropped. For those who are active subscribers, the fees won’t be dropped all at once over various versions of Whatsapp. Instead, the removal will slowly take place over the next several weeks.
Despite destroying its only source of income, Whatsapp has also acknowledged that they will not be introducing third-party apps to compensate for the loss. Whatsapp, which was acquired by Facebook in February of 2014, has nearly a billion users at present. Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has since stated his expectation that the service will hit that milestone, making it ripe for monetization.
