Metro Retail Stores Group Inc. said it has signed a 25-year lease agreement with the local government of Bais, Negros Oriental for the use of a building which it plans to convert into a hypermarket. The planned store in Bais will be the first in Negros and will offer food and general merchandise to local patrons. Metro’s expansion in the locality is part of its efforts to increase its foothold in the Visayas. The said building will be turned over to the Gaisano-owned company March next year.
Frank Gaisano, chairman and CEO of Metro Retail, said their goal is to double their footprint within five years.“We are very much excited to serve the growing city of Bais, and we see a lot of opportunities for mutual growth,” said Gaisano. According to him, the store in Bais will also serve neighboring municipalities including Manjuyod, Mabinay, Ayungon and Bindoy.
Metro Retail has over 49 stores with presence in key cities in Central, Western, and Eastern Visayas. The publicly-listed company is known as the largest store operator in the Visayas region.
