Reddit Unveils New Smartphone App

After a long wait, Reddit finally unveiled its first official app for both the iOS and Android. The company previously made do with Alien Blue, which began as a third-party app before Reddit acquired it in 2014. To make it faster, more usable, and more modern, Reddit’s engineering team decided to rebuild it from scratch, resulting in the brand new app.

The app looks a lot like previous versions of Alien Blue, only more souped-up. There are noticeable design tweaks and iconography that makes it feel like a truly unique destination. It also has a “speed read” button that allows for quick navigations. Active users will find that the app makes it easier and faster to drop in text, links, photos, and the like, making for a very convenient experience. To help boost sales, Reddit is offering a first week free trial for its ad-free gold membership.
