SMC Proposes $100M Bridge to Boracay

The white sand beaches of Boracay may become even more accessible to domestic and foreign tourists in the future. San Miguel Corp. (SMC) is offering to construct a 1.9km toll bridge that will directly connect Caticlan to Boracay. Aside from providing a possible alternative mode of transportation to the island (which currently can only be reached by boat from the Caticlan jetty port), the proposed $100 million infrastructure project also aims to address the congestion and sewerage issues of the famous island.

SMC President Ramon S. Ang claimed that the planned bridge will help decongest Boracay by providing a convenient channel of transportation in and out of the island. With the existence of the bridge, cheap accommodations in Caticlan will become more desirable as travel considerations will no longer be a problem. This in turn, Ang claimed, will decongest Boracay. “We think what’s best is if everybody will stay and eat in Caticlan, go to Boracay to enjoy the beach,” Ang concluded.
