Uber is facing serious competition after four of its rivals forged an alliance to take it on. Didi Kuaidi (China) and Lyft (USA) were the first to officially announce their partnership. GrabTaxi (Southeast Asia) and Ola (India) followed suit. With this strategic ridesharing partnership, their reach now covers nearly half of the world’s population.
The alliance is good news for international travelers since they can now enjoy a more seamless ridesharing experience across multiple countries. For example, a Chinese Didi user will be able to use the same app even in Singapore when hailing a GrabTaxi. It works in reverse, too. The startups will work together, sharing technology as well as local market knowledge and other business resources to accomplish their goals.
Apparently, this grand alliance is not so surprising considering Tech in Asia’s prediction back in July.
